Last summer I ended the season with a blog post about all the music I had been into at that time. I figured I should do the same again considering the fact that I spend 95% of my time listening to and find new music.
So, in case you've been dying to know, here is what I've been really loving lately. Tracy Chapman
My girl.
I can't stop listening to Tracy Chapman these days, I don't know what brought it on, but I love everything about her. Her attitude, the subjects of her songs, her badassness. She's my hero. Everything she writes is amazing, but here are a few of my favorites.
The National
On to a much, much different sound - the National is fantastic and unique in every way. The effortless emotion exuded from Matt Berninger (the lead vocalist) is authentic and unparalleled and perfect for rainy days.
Besides the songs below, some other great ones are "I Should Live in Salt," "Don't Swallow the Cap," "29 Years," "Demons," and "Terrible Love."
Bear's Den
I had Bear's Den on my list last summer as well. But back in July they released their latest album, Red Earth and Pouring Rain, and it is perfect in all ways.
Along with these four, "Broken Parable," and "Roses on a Breeze" are to be listened too as well.
A mix of the classics
The 60's, 70's and 80's have been very prevelant this summer, so instead of listing all the songs individually, here are a few of the playlists I built on Spotify for you to check out. The first two "Flower Child" and "This That Good Shit" are primarily the aforementioned decades.
The bottom two, "Rainy Day Aesthetic" and "Night Drives," are a mix of the more modern music I've been loving. A lot of Bon Iver, Bear's Den, Damien Rice, Passenger, Glen Hansard, etc.
Damien Rice
Damien Rice is pure magic.
Some other great ones by him are "9 Crimes," "Colour Me In," "Delicate," and "Older Chests."
The Lumineer's latest album was released this year, with much anticipation, and it was not a disappointment. Here are some of my favorites from the record.
A Few Other Greats
Here are just a few others to leave you with that I couldn't not mention.
I could go on forever, but I will have to stop myself at this. I hope you find something new that you enjoy!
Thanks for reading, Amanda Lucille

Lots of great songs. Have loved Tracy Chapman for a very long time. She was one of my daughter's favorites. It seems there are few 'protest songs' about environmental issues, especially climate change. Back in the 60's there were a ton of great songs about civil rights and the Vietnam War. Tracy's song Rape of the World is my favorite and I love Mountains of Things regarding our destructive consumerism. I know there are a good number of your generation that are concerned about the climate, but it is far too few. Your generation is taking the reins and our generation has left you a lame and dying horse. When I have gone to various environmental protests and work on climate issues, there are many of my generation engaged and too few of the generations that are going to be facing the massive challenges of the climate crisis. I know some really good things are happening to combat the issue, but it is far too little far too late to avoid serious world challenges the climate is causing that will only get worse. A price on CO2 is the best single action needed, but all actions are required. Lago
