I only write a new one when I find someone who really does inspire me, whether is be someone who I am close friends with or someone I've never met in my life. Why do I write these blogs? I feel that it's important do be the best person you can be and really reach for what you want in life and most of the time, doing this can be a real challenge. But inspiration is motivation - and I am a huge believer that the most inspiration can be found in the people around us. There are so many amazing human beings on this planet, and not only do they deserve to know how wonderful they are, but it only seems right to spread the inspiration they've brought to my life to as many people as I can. And that is why I love to write these pieces. This time, the person I have found inspiration in is not someone I know all that well. In fact, we've only actually met once, but I hear about him all the time since we share a mutual friend. This person is Brendan Lynch. He met my best friend, Victoria, during my semester in Paris. I remember the first time she mentioned him to me via Skype. She had just come back to Umass after a semester abroad and was nervous about finding a new group of friends. But, during her theatre class she was paired with this boy, Brendan, for a rather intrusive exercise that had the potential to be extremely awkward and uncomfortable, but instead of this happening, the two hit it off and were soon close friends. When I met Brendan it was for a weekend in New Hampshire the day after I cam back from Paris. I had to admit, I was nervous, since I am this bumbling idiot who says the strangest things that often make people think I'm insane, and he seemed so cool and normal. But, it turns out he was nice and extremely genuine and I was obviously overreacting. Once Victoria and I became roommates, I began to learn more about Brendan. Like, for instance, how he was an amazing actor. Now, I have yet to see him acting myself, but based on what I've heard from Victoria and others in the Umass Theatre department, he's one of the best actors in the program. He puts himself completely into the roles that he plays and truly dedicates himself to his craft. Which is a admirable quality among people our age and not an easy thing to do. What really stands out about Brendan, though, and was the reason I decided to write about him for "Humans That Inspire", is because of his music. He is an amazing singer/songwriter. A few weeks ago, Victoria had me listen to a song on SoundCloud called "Run Run". I loved it. It sounded just like something you'd find on my Spotify playlist (and lord knows I'm obsessed with perfecting my Spotify playlists). I asked who it was and she told me that is was Brendan Lynch. Well, I thought, I gotta get my shit together because this kid's the same age as me and is five seconds away from getting a record deal. Seriously, that's how awesome it was. Turns out Brendan has been working on recording and getting his music out there for a while now. He has recorded his first EP, "The Basement Session EP", about a year ago and you can check it out for FREE on SoundCloud! Now he is finishing up and preparing to release his newest collection of songs and I've got to say, it's really impressive. What's clear with Brendan, is that he pushes himself to do as best he can and I know that with the positive attitude he is consistently putting out there and his determination is more than admirable. He's doing what it takes to reach his dreams in life and what can be more inspiring than that? And, he's a damn good photographer to boot. And since I believe that hard work pays off and that good things should come to good people, I hope that you all will take some time to check out Brendan's music and spread the love!
